The tournament division men and ladies have completed their final tournaments. Congratulations are going out to Bev Magnus who won the 5th tournament with a score of 2088. This is her third win overall. Also, Tracy Smith won the 6th tournament with a score of 2147, her sixteenth win. On the men’s side Tyler Tytgat won the 5th tournament with a score of 2243, his third win. Adam Weber was the winner of the 6th with a score of 2385, his sixth win. Great bowling everyone!

Teaching and Senior Division Results – 4 th Tournament
Davina Cassie of Edmonton won the 4 th North Division Ladies tournament with a +111. In the South, Karen Tanke of Drumheller won with a +279. On the men’s side Grant Modahl of Lac La Biche won the North with a +311. Russ Foster from Redcliff was the South winner with a +235. In the Senior POA Division, Murray Adair of Pincher Creek won with a +191. In the Senior Scratch Division, Greg Gigliuk of Red Deer won with a score of 1928. It was the second win of the year. Congratulations to all of the Teaching and Senior Division winners! Best of luck to everyone at the upcoming Provincials. Remember, if your name appears above the black line on the results sheet, you have qualified for Provincials. Make sure that you have sent in your averages as of March 7, 2022. Dorry requires this by March 11, 2022.

The final tournament this year for teaching and seniors will be held on February 13, 2022. Check with your zone director to be sure of your location and time.

The tournament division has now completed their 3rd and 4th tournaments.
The ladies third tournament winner was Tracy Smith of Calgary with a 2109. This was her fifteenth win.
The winner of the fourth ladies tournament was Bonnie McDonald of Hylo with a 2284. This is Bonnie’s tenth tournament win.
In the men’s division Tyler Tytgat won the third tournament with a 2361. He is from Edmonton and this was his second win.
Robert Wolfson of De Winton won the fourth tournament with 2247. This was Robert’s third win.
Tournament 5 and 6 will be held in Calgary on March 19 and 20. Check with your zone directors as to the exact location and times. Alberta’s National Team will be finalized on Sunday and the winners will be asked to stay a little later to pick a coach, sign papers, and get sized up for shirts.

Master Bowlers Association of Canada Award of Excellence 2022
Congratulations to Bev Gigliuk and Don Sim for being selected to receive the Master Bowlers Association of Canada Award of Excellence in 2022. Don and Bev join Dianne Violini, Willy Moyes, Greg Gigliuk, Lynn Howell, Bruce Morter and Fran Clarke as Alberta’s representatives for this award. Bev and Don will receive their awards when we host Nationals, hopefully this year. Bev was one of our province’s best tournament bowlers early in her career. Bev was a member of the first Gold Medal Tournament Ladies team. Bev became the face of the Alberta Masters working in the office for many years. Bev continues to support the Masters as our Senior Division director and competes in the Senior division. Bev also volunteers when we have a Casino. Don was one of the original presidents of the Alberta Masters back when we were just forming our organization. Don made Masters teams in the Tournament Division many times. (Don could probably tell you how many). Don continues to help us with National Lane Draws for Alberta and many of the MBAC Nationals. Don still volunteers to help us when we have a Casino
Master/YBC Tournament
The annual Master/YBC Provincial tournament is being held on March 6, 2022 at Heritage Lanes in Red Deer. This is a great event that gives our youth bowlers a glimpse at what being a Master is all about.
Teams are made up of a bantam, junior and senior YBC bowler as well as a Master bowler. We need Masters from all divisions to support this tournament!!
Entry information has been sent to the bowling centers and your proprietors should be running house rounds in the near future. Please take the time to check it out and join in. It really is a lot of fun for those who get involved!!
Senior Division Provincials
The dates for the Senior Division Provincials are Saturday, March 19, 2022, and Sunday,
March 20, 2022. They will be held at Holiday Bowl in Lethbridge. The start times will be Saturday @ 12:00 p.m. and Sunday @ 9:00 a.m. Cost is $100.

The results of the first two tournaments in the tournament division for the 2021-2022 season are as follows:
Heidi Mapstone won the first tournament with a total of 2174. This is her fourth win. Jennifer Baker won the second tournament on October 17 with a total of 2118. This is Jennifer’s 12 win.
Bobby Kyte won the first tournament with a total of 2362. This was his first win.
Tyler Tytgat won the second tournament. He rolled a total of 2410. This was also his first win as a Master Bowler.

Congratulations go out to Jamie McAra from Edmonton on winning in the North Teaching Ladies division with a +271. This is Jamie’s fifth year as a Master.
Shaylene Smith of Calgary won the South Teaching Ladies tournament with a +233. Shaylene has been a member for six years.
On the men’s side, Yvon Hachey of St. Albert won the Teaching Men’s North division with a +366. Yvon, after this season, will become a lifetime member. Congratulations on two accounts.
Matt Johnson of Calgary was a winner in the South division with +275. This is Matt’s ninth year as a Master.
Tournament #2 – November 7, 2021
Elly Van Dyk from Clairmont bowled a +97 to win the North Teaching Ladies division.
Chelsi Paxton from Calgary won the South Teaching Ladies tournament with a +158.
Corey Papp from St. Albert had +231 and won the Teaching Men’s North division.
Ray G. Clark rolled a +166 in the Teaching Men’s South division. Ray is from Leduc.

The Senior’s POA Division was won by Bob Guthrie of Leduc. Bob rolled a +210. Bob has been a Master for fifty-one years. Wow!
Barry Urquhart has won the Senior Scratch Division with 2119. Barry has been a member of the association for sixteen years.
Tournament #2 – November 7, 2021
The Senior’s POA Division was won by Debbie Boswell of Calgary. Debbie rolled a +142.
Barry Urquhart won this tournament as well. He bowled a 1889 in the Senior Scratch division.

To be eligible to be a National Coach, you must be a certified Level II coach with Competition Coach Upgrade or be a certified Introduction to Competition Coach; by the start of the 5th Tournament Division tournament or by the time the Teaching and Senior Division Provincial Tournament begins, whichever comes first.

A Reminder to all to New Bowlers
To be eligible to participate on a National team, you must have taken a Community Sport Initiation Clinic prior to December 31st of the current bowling season. Teaching Masters’ Provincial Final
Please note that the finals for the teaching masters will be bowled at Bronx Bowl on March 19, 2022 and at St. Albert Bowl on March 20, 2022. Each of these lanes are in Edmonton. Each of the tournaments will start at 9:00 am.
Seniors’ Provincial Final
The provincial finals for seniors will be bowled at Holiday Bowl in Lethbridge on March 19 &20, 2022. The starting times for the seniors are 12:00 pm om March 19 and 9:00 am on March 20.

If you are planning to attend the Master/Youth Tournament on October 23 and 24 and you are over 12 years old, please be advised that you must bring proof of vaccination. You must have had at least one shot before the tournament. This complies with the AHS requirements.

1. Please bring proof that you have received two doses of a World Health Organization Covid-19 vaccination or a single vaccination on or before September 12, 2021 with a second dose before October 24, 2021 to bowl the remaining tournaments.
2. Or provide proof that you have received a negative Covid-19test in the last 72 hours prior to the tournament date from a Health Canada approved provider.
3. Or provide an original vaccine medical exception letter.
4. Bring the attached forms, completed, to the tournament. Please note that the declaration form must be brought to every tournament.

6. Please come early so that the paperwork can be collected and the tournament can start on time.
We welcome you to another season. Your membership dues helped us remain a viable association during the 2019-2020 season and we thank you very much for your support. We are hopeful that we will be able to get a full season in this year, culminating in the National Championships in Edmonton.
We all know by now that our Covid 19 situation can change very quickly. We want everyone to stay safe and follow provincial Alberta Health Services guidelines as we progress through the year. Please work closely with your local proprietors who are working hard to ensure our Y.B.C. bowlers and coaches are both safe yet still have fun in our sport.
We are working with Bowl Alberta and Alberta 5 Pin Bowlers Association closely to safely run our tournaments. We will run our tournaments as we are permitted with AHS. We may once again have to change tournament dates and times as we try to get a full season in to create an Alberta contingent for this year’s Nationals in Edmonton. We will try to stick to our schedule the best we can throughout the year. Please understand that we will be doing the best we can under the circumstances.
We continue to plan to host this year’s Nationals at Bonnie Doon Lanes June 27 (early arrivals) June 28th (opening ceremonies) until July 3, 2022 (departures). Rookie Tournament Rate
We continue to offer the Rookie Rate to welcome new bowlers into our Tournaments. First year members of the Master Bowlers Association of Alberta over the age of 25 and who has never been a member of any Master Bowlers Association in Canada will be charged the same tournament rate currently charged to our members under the age of 25 during their first season of tournaments.
Welcome Back Tournament Rate
We also have our Welcome Back Rate. Members of the Master Bowlers Association over the age of 25 and who have not competed in any Master Bowlers Association tournament in Canada in the past 3 consecutive seasons will have the opportunity to apply to be charged the same tournament rate currently charged to our members under the age of 25 during the current season of tournaments. The application must be received prior to participation. The rate can be used once during the member’s lifetime.
Alberta 5 Pin Cards
MBA of A members competing in qualifying tournaments must be a member in good standing with the Alberta 5-Pin Bowlers’ Association and the Master Bowlers’ Association of Alberta. The 5 pin card must be purchased through a local proprietor or directly through the Alberta 5 pin office.
