Welcome back for another season of the Master Bowlers Association of Alberta.
Alberta Wins Aggregate at Nationals in Thunder Bay
We had a very good showing in Thunder Bay as we won the aggregate for the sixth time in seven years.
Congratulations to Georgette Lafreniere who won the Seniors Gold Medal. Georgette had a record of 15-5-1. The Seniors Team ended up 5th.
Shawn MacKinnon won the Teaching Mens Singles Gold with a record of 16-5. The teaching men’s team won Silver Medals. Congratulations to Shawn MacKinnon, Matt Johnson, Ralph Galenza, Brian Wozny, Dean Will and coach Mailinda Thomson.
Tournament Ladies brought home Gold. Congratulations to Jennifer Smith, Dianne Violini, Halea Kohel, Shauna Pirie-Laisnez, Bonnie McDonald, Pamela Wilson and coach Geoff Wilson. Dianne had the high average in the tournament ladies event with a 258 average and a 17-3-1 match play record. Dianne also received a 40 year participation plaque from the Master Bowlers Association of Canada. Dianne keeps on rolling in a truly amazing career. Congratulations Dianne.
Bradly Tytgat qualified third in Tournament Mens Singles and then went on an amazing run in the step ladder. Bradly threw 329 and 368 to defeat Matthew Harms of B.C. (who threw 295-312). Bradly then threw 370 his first game of the championship match against Geoff Born of Winnipeg. Geoff then came back to win the Gold with scores of 237 to 160 and 258 to 255. A great showing for Bradley. The Tournament Mens Team finished fourth.
Christine Pocza qualified third in Tournament Ladies Singles. After losing her first step ladder match 268-201, Christine turned the tables on Sara Thiemann of Saskatchewan by winning the next two matches 297-245 and 349-209. Christine won the Silver medal as Melissa Llewellyn of Southern Ontario won the Gold.
The Teaching Ladies came from behind their last two games to edge out Manitoba by one point for the bronze medal. Congratulations to Shaylene Smith, Pamela Foley, Shelly Taylor, Amanda Howlett and Monique Mallard and coach Bob Stirling.
Rookie Tournament Rate
We continue to offer the Rookie Rate to welcome new bowlers into our Tournaments. First year members of the Master Bowlers Association of Alberta over the age of 25 and who has never been a member of any Master Bowlers Association in Canada will be charged the same tournament rate currently charged to our members under the age of 25 during their first season of tournaments.
Welcome Back Tournament Rate
We also have our Welcome Back Rate. Members of the Master Bowlers Association over the age of 25 and who have not competed in any Master Bowlers Association tournament in Canada in the past 3 consecutive seasons will have the opportunity to apply to be charged the same tournament rate currently charged to our members under the age of 25 during the current season of tournaments. The application must be received prior to participation. The rate can be used once during the member’s lifetime.
Alberta 5 Pin Cards
MBA of A members competing in qualifying tournaments must be a member in good standing with the Alberta 5-Pin Bowlers’ Association and the Master Bowlers’ Association of Alberta. The 5 pin card must be purchased through a local proprietor or directly through the Alberta 5 pin office.

Enclosed you will find the schedule for the season’s upcoming tournaments. Please remember to check future newsletters for notices of change of dates or times. Sometimes changes do have to be made and we do not want anyone missing out or arriving for a tournament on the wrong day.
Master/Youth Tournament
Included with this newsletter you will find an entry form for the Master/Youth Tournament. These entry forms are to be forwarded to Paradise Lanes. Mark Miller’s information is included on the entry form.
The Master/Youth Tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 & 14, 2018 at Paradise Lanes in Calgary. The times are October 13 @ 4:00 p.m. and October 14 at 9:00 a.m. You choose the shift you prefer to bowl. Entry fee is $50.00 per bowler!
Please be sure to include your phone number on the entry form. This is in the event that you need to be contacted in the case of a time change or cancellation. Neither are likely, but having your phone number makes this much easier! Thank you.
Late Renewal Fee
Please note the late fee of $10.00 if renewal fees are not paid by September 23rd of the current bowling season.
Lane Agent Needed
