ALBERTA FINISHES STRONG AT NATIONALS

We are very happy to congratulate our Alberta teams and singles who achieved much success at the Nationals in Sudbury in July.

Congratulations to both the Teaching Ladies team and the Tournament Men’s team on their 1st place finishes.

The Tournament ladies team finished in 2nd place, while the Senior Division team took 8 points in each of their last 3 games to make a huge comeback, going from last place to 3rd place.  Congratulations to both of these teams!

Our Teaching Men’s team finished in 7th place.

From our Teaching division, we would like to congratulate Julie Morrison on her silver medal in the ladies singles event!  Rob Carbrey of Alberta was 6th on the men’s side of the Teaching singles division.

In the Tournament Division singles, both Bonnie Olson and Aaron Arndt finished 7th in their events.

Very warm congratulations to Georgette Lafreniere of the Senior Division for her bronze medal finish in the Pins Over Average event!  Georgette was +174, only 12 pins behind second place and only 76 pins behind first.  Great bowling Georgette!

We would also like to congratulate John Drnasin of the Senior Division.  John finished with the high average for the Senior bowlers with a 246.5. This is the second year in a row that John has held that honor.  He was also high average last year with a 223.9 average.  Great bowling John!

Alberta placed second overall for the aggregate standings.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to Eric Andersen for stepping in to coach the Senior Division team on short notice.

Congratulations to all of the bowlers who represented Alberta at this year’s Nationals!!

SENIOR DIVISION QUALIFYING FORMAT

It has been requested that a description as to how the Senior Division team is decided at the Provincials be provided to the bowlers.

The following is a copy of this description from the Standing Rules and Policy of the Master Bowlers’ Association of Alberta:

In the Senior Division a Master must choose to bowl either scratch or pins over average. For Masters bowling pins over average, the average used shall be a 40 game tournament average. If the Master Bowler does not have 40 games in the Master’s tournament play, their league average shall be used, or a composite average of league and tournament shall be used until the 40 games in Masters tournament play bowled. For Masters bowling scratch a total pinfall basis shall be used.

The Senior Division shall consist of eight (8) Zones. They shall bowl four (4) tournaments of eight (8) games each. The best three (3) out of four (4) tournaments shall be used to determine the Senior Division members advancing to the Provincial finals.  Each zone will advance all pins over average Masters who are a plus.   Scratch division is the top 50% only.  Masters from each zone shall advance to a provincial round. Seniors advancing to the Provincial shall bowl based on their qualifying format; either POA or scratch. The Provincial round shall consist of sixteen (16) games bowled over two (2) days. The National team shall be made up of combined pins over average and scratch Seniors. The ratio of Pins Over Average to Scratch members will be based on total participants in each division.

a) in the event of a tie in the senior division provincial final positions, a one-game roll-off will take place. For the pins over average participants, the winner will be determined by the bowler who bowls the highest pins over average.  For the scratch participants, the highest score will determine the winner.

b) in the Senior Division Pins Over Average side, if the first two qualifiers are of the same gender, then the third position would go to the highest POA of the opposite gender.

FEE INCREASE

Due to the Proprietor lineage rate increasing to $5.00/ line this year, the fees at the tournaments will be $65.00 this year.

Bowlers under 25 years of age will be charged $35.00 for tournament fees.

Please note that the late fee of $10.00 if renewal fees are not paid by September 30th of the current bowling season.
