Important Coaching Upgrade Information
The following information comes from the Technical Director and is very important to the coaches of the Master Bowlers’ Association of Alberta.

LEVEL 1 to CSI TRAINED STATUS:  Any Level 1 coaches who have not completed the in-class Making Ethical Decisions or on-line Commmunity Sport Making Ethical Decisions (MED) test by Dec. 2013 will be considered inactive and will have to take the entire CSI clinic.

The C5 office has indicated they will recognize three methods of MED participation for those wishing to update their status from Level 1 to Community Sport Initiation trained.

These are:
1. The in-class session with a Community Sport Initiation Clinic
2. A Comp-Intro Med test AND as well,
3. A Community Sport Med on-line test.

The C5 office says: “We will recognize both of them (Community Sport Med and Comp-Int MED) for Level 1 coaches but the Comp Med is required for Level 2 Coaches.” (who are pursuing their Comp Certification status)  The deadline for Level 1 coaches to upgrade to CSI Trained is Dec 31, 2013 and for Level 2 coaches to Comp Certified is Dec  31, 2015.

Keep this in mind; I am only referring to NCCP requirements, NOT tournament requirements. Tournament requirements may be different and unrelated.

LEVEL 2 to COMP CERTIFIED STATUS
All Level 2 coaches must have all their upgrades completed by Dec. 2015. All Level 2 coaches will remain active on the C5 database until this date regardless of having taken the MED. After Dec 2015 those Level 2 coaches who did not upgrade will be considered inactive.

All Level 2 coaches who wish to attain COMP Certified equivalency must complete three things:

  1. Code of Conduct
  2. Pass the Technical test -75% and
  3. Pass the on-line Comp- Int Med test (go to http://nccp.coach.ca ) by Dec 31, 2015. You will need your NCCP # and a password from coach.ca. Follow the links. They will email you a password. The test takes about one hour but you can take as long as you wish.

***Before December 2013 and December 2015 some events may require the Coach, regardless of their Level, 1 or 2, to have taken the MED class or on-line test to coach at that event. Check the event rules.

It is suggested, but not necessary, that Level 2 coaches simply take the on-line test instead of the in-class session. They will require the on-line test to become COMP certified anyway. That being said Level 2 coaches can still take the in-class session if they wish and then do the on-line test later.

The on-line Comp-Int MED test offers you one practice scenario that will provide you with immediate feedback and the correct answer if you were wrong with your response. You can re-do the practice session over and over.  Take notes!

When you are ready you will have two scenarios to complete. The scenarios are similar in nature to the practice one. Your notes will help you. The test and practice should only take an hour or so.

The Code of Conduct must be signed and mailed or faxed to:
Sheila Carr
Executive Director|
Canadian 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association
#206 – 720 Belfast Rd.
Ottawa, ON, K1G 0Z5     fax (613)744-2217.

The Technical test can be saved to your computer, completed and then emailed to sheila.c5pba@gmail.com . The pass grade is 75%.

For those of you who do not have internet access, I have copies of the code of conduct as well as the technical test available at the office.  Please contact Bev at 403-309-6916 for these documents.

As they are quite lengthy, I am not mailing them out to everyone but would be happy to mail them to those that require them!

Best Wishes to everyone for a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season!!

Should you happen to make a National team without a card you will be disqualified and not allowed to go to the National event.

NEW ZONE DIRECTOR REQUIRED – ZONE 8

As many of you are aware, Rick Wagner has been looking after the position as Zone Director for the Teaching and Senior Division in Zone 8 for numerous years.  Zone 8 covers the Blairmore, Claresholm, Lethbridge, and Pincher Creek area.  Rick has informed us that he is semi-retiring and will therefore be unable to continue in the position.   This is a request to anyone that would be interested in helping out at the tournaments with collecting and sending in fees as well as results, to please contact Rick.  This is an important job and one that requires attendance at the tournaments.  Usually it is someone who is bowling in the tournaments that takes it on, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way.  If you attend the tournaments but don’t bowl, perhaps it would be something you would like to do.

It is necessary that we fill this position as soon as possible.  Rick will be available for the first tournament of the season on October 2 to show how things are done.   If you would be interested, please contact Rick at rrw2@shaw.ca or by calling him at 403-327-0686.

Thanks to Rick for a job very well done.  We will definitely miss his attention to detail and accuracy, as well as his good nature!!  Happy semi-retirement Rick.  Enjoy!!

WELCOME TO NEW BOARD MEMBERS

We would like to thank Jennifer Marshall for 10 years of service on our board as a Tournament Division Director, as well as Tournament Division Director Greg Gigliuk.  Greg has held various positions on the board for over 25 years and will be taking over from Linda Raymond as our Treasurer. We would like to welcome Brian Sudbury, Aaron Arndt and Mark Johnstone to the Board of Directors of the Master Bowlers’ Association of Alberta.

Brian will be taking over as Technical Director from Fran Clarke.  Aaron and Mark are each taking on the position of Tournament Director for the Tournament Division.

THANK YOU TO FRAN CLARKE

We would like to thank Fran Clarke for all the time she put in revising our new Community Sport and Competitive Sport coaching programs across Canada. Fran’s efforts for both our province and for Canada are unprecedented in the area of technical development. Fran will be missed not only on our Board of Directors, but across Canada.  We would like to thank Brian Sudbury for stepping into Fran’s shoes and we look forward to working with Brian.

There will be a 5 Pin Bowling event on CBC Television from Chinook Bowl in Calgary on Saturday, September 17, 2011.  This is part of Sport Day in Canada.  Adam Weber and Jennifer Laden, both of Calgary, will be on the show.  Check your schedule as the date gets closer for times.
