Tournament Division Results – Tournament #1 & 2

Jennifer Smith of Calgary won the first tournament with a total of 2291.  This is her twenty-eighth win.  Jennifer Baker of Stettler won the second tournament on October 15 with a total of 2297.  This is Jennifer’s fifteenth win.

Tim Wiseman of Sherwood Park won the first tournament with a total of 2416.  This was Tim’s seventh win.  Tyler Tytgat of Edmonton won the second tournament.  He rolled a total of 2300. This was his sixth win.

Congratulations to all.  Great bowling!

Teaching Division Results – Tournament #1 & #2

The first and second teaching division tournaments are complete.

Tournament #1- September 24, 2023

Congratulations go out to Joleen Dalby and Taryn Beattie from Edmonton on winning in the North Teaching Ladies division with a +207.  Yes, it was a tie.

Shaylene Smith of Calgary won the South Teaching Ladies tournament with a +306. Shaylene has been a member for eight years.

On the men’s side, Riaz Usman of Edmonton won the Teaching Men’s North division with a +280.   Riaz has been a master for 7 years.

William Beadle of Calgary was a winner in the South division with +255.  

Tournament #2 – November 5, 2023

Jen Nichol from Grande Prairie bowled a +217 to win the North Teaching Ladies division.  This is her second year as a Master.

Bonnie Engelking from Leduc won the South Teaching Ladies tournament with a +370.  This was her first Master’s tournament.  Wow!

David Bridges from Grande Prairie had +185 and won the Teaching Men’s North division.  

David Johnson rolled a +252 in the Teaching Men’s South division.  David is from Airdrie.

Senior Division Results – Tournament #1 & #2

Tournament #1 – September 24, 2024

The Senior’s POA Division was won by Bev Gigliuk of Red Deer.  Bev rolled a +146. This is Bev’s 10 win overall and 5th as a senior.

Dave Philpot has won the Senior Scratch Division with 2091.  This is Dave’s first win.

Tournament #2 – November 5, 2023

The Senior’s POA Division was won by Linda Seitz of Redcliff.  Linda rolled a +279.

Rob Price from Medicine Hat won this tournament with a 2065 in the Senior Scratch division.  This was his 2nd win as a Master.

    New Life Time Member       
We would like to congratulate Sharon Arndt of Calgary on reaching 25 years of membership with the Master Bowlers Association of Alberta. She has received her award at the second tournament at Chinook Bowladrome. 

Coaching Information

To be eligible to be a National Coach, you must be a certified Level II coach with Competition Coach Upgrade or be a certified Introduction to Competition Coach; by the start of the 5th Tournament Division tournament or by the time the Teaching and Senior Division Provincial Tournament begins, whichever comes first.

Competition Trained but not Certified Coaches 

You may have missed a deadline!

This is a reminder for those coaches who have taken the competition clinic.  You had until June 30, 2023 to be certified to complete your certification.  As of July 1, 2023 you will need to pay $50 to the CFPA to complete your certification.  Please contact Brian Sudbury to schedule an appointment.  mbaofatd@gmail.com

A Reminder to all to New Bowlers

To be eligible to participate on a national team, you must have taken a Community Sport Initiation Clinic prior to December 31st of the current bowling season.   Many clinics will be taking place in November.  Let Brian Sudbury  ( mbaofatd@gmail.com ) know if you would like to take a clinic so that you could qualify.

Teaching Masters’ Provincial Final

Please note that the finals for the teaching masters will be bowled in central Alberta on March 16 and 17, 2024.  On Saturday March 16, 2024, the ladies will be bowling in Innisfail and the men will be bowling in Olds.  On Sunday, everybody will bowl at Heritage Lanes in Red Deer.  All tournaments each day will begin at 9:00 am.

Seniors’ Provincial Final

The provincial finals for seniors will be bowled at Heartland Bowl in Stettler on March 16 & 17, 2024. The starting times for the seniors are 12:00 pm on March 18 and 9:00 am on March 19.

Our Master Youth Tournament was held on October 21 and 22.  For the results please click on the following link:

Congratulations to all the winners! http://www.paradiselanes.ca/tournaments/local-tournaments/ A big thank you to Mark Miller and Paradise Lanes for hosting this event.  

This year the event was a big success.  Mark had to add an extra shift on Saturday night.  There were fifty teams competing and the top 12 positions were paid prize money and the top three teams received medals.  A total of $7500 was paid out in prizes. 

Lane Agents Needed Central Alberta 

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Patrricza Rempel has resigned her position.  We thank her for years of service.  We appreciated all the work she did for the association. Job Posting:If you would like to contribute to the association and be a lane agent, please notify Brian Sudbury mbaofatd@gmail.com  of your interest. Why would you like to become a lane agent?  For many reasons including:

You will be able to visit the bowling houses in central Alberta in fall.
Your expenses will be covered.
You will be trained how to do the job.
You will also receive a payment of $8/lane that you inspect.
You will feel good about being a volunteer for the organization.
In the spirit of True Sport principles, you have the opportunity to give back to the game. Please consider the position.
