Alberta Wins Aggregate at Nationals in Surrey

We had a very good showing in Surrey as we won the aggregate for the fourth time in five years.

Congratulations to Jennifer Baker who won the Tournament Ladies Singles Gold Medal. Jennifer finished first in the match play with a great 17 win 4 loss record. Jennifer then won the Gold Medal step ladder with two straight wins over Meagan Gallicano of Newfoundland.

Tim Wiseman won silver in the Tournament Mens Singles. Tim defeated defending champion Geoff Stevens of Southern Ontario in the bronze/silver medal match before falling to Kevin Clark of Regina in the final.

Tournament Ladies came from behind the final day to win Gold. Congratulations to Jennifer Smith, Halea DeSutter, Heidi Mapstone, Shauna Pirie-Laisnez, Bonnie McDonald and coach Geoff Wilson.

Tournament Men brought home Silver led by Karie Kreutz who set a new MBA of Canada record for average at a Masters Nationals with 281.5 average. Derek Home, Gary Baird, Matt Schultz, Gene Ziebarth and coach Harvie Pocza comprised the team.

Rob Carbrey won Gold with a 16-5 match play record amongst the Teaching Division. Kathy Mockerman won Silver, narrowly missing Gold in a tie breaker with Quebec. Teaching Ladies finished fourth while the Teaching Men finished fifth.

Georgette Lafreniere won the Bronze Medal for Seniors Singles. The Seniors team finished 7th.

Alberta 5 Pin Cards

This will be the first reminder of the season regarding Alberta 5 Pin Cards. All Master Bowlers’ Association of Alberta participants are required to have an Alberta 5 Pin card by November 30th of the current bowling season. Should you happen to make a National team without a card, you will be disqualified and not allowed to go to the National event. The 5 pin cards must be purchased thru a local proprietor or directly thru the Alberta 5 pin office.

Tournament Schedule

Enclosed you will find the schedule for the season’s upcoming tournaments. Please remember to check future newsletters for notices of change of dates or times. Sometimes changes do have to be made and we do not want anyone missing out or arriving for a tournament on the wrong day.

Master/Youth Tournament

Included with this newsletter you will find an entry form for the Master/Youth Tournament. These entry forms are to be forwarded to Paradise Lanes. Mark Miller’s information is included on the entry form.

The Master/Youth Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Paradise Lanes in Calgary, with a shift at 3:00 p.m. and also a 7:00 p.m. shift, if necessary. Entry fee is $50.00 per bowler!
