August 2012

Welcome back to another season!

Our Team performed very well at the National Championships in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Our contingent won the Aggregate for the first time in many years. Congratulations to the entire contingent. Our Seniors won Gold dominating the field by only losing 2 games the whole tournament. Vivianne Neal, a rookie, had 20 wins and 1 loss in match play. Georgette repeated as the Gold Medal winner in the singles competition. Tom Stevenson averaged 262.

Our Teaching Men waited until the last game to win their gold medal.  Coach Brian Sudbury and the team now have a few more grey hairs. They were tied with Southern Ontario going into the last game. We took 7 points while Southern Ontario took 5 for a 2 point win. The teaching men were a plus 1063 while Ontario was plus 873.

After a slow start, our Tournament Ladies won their last 9 games to easily take the Gold Medal. They had a solid team effort with rookie Jennifer Baker leading the way with a 259 average and a high game of 405. Dianne Violini had 18 wins and 3 losses in match play.

Mailinda Thomson won the Teaching Ladies Gold Medal and Adrian Burke won the Silver in the Teaching Mens singles.

Matt Schultz had an extremely close Gold Medal match but had to settle for a Silver Medal in Tournament Division Singles. Bonnie McDonald won a three person one game roll off to qualify for the Tournament Division Ladies Singles step-ladder and ended up with a Bronze Medal.

Our Teaching Ladies tied for 5th and were only 8 points out of third place. Our Tournament Men finished 4th by ½ a point to Quebec.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped us at our July Casino in Calgary. Rumor has it our next Casino event will be New Year’s Eve 2013.

Thank you to all of the volunteer coaches who helped at this year’s bowling school in Calgary. We had a very good turnout.

We are hosting the 2013 Master Bowlers’ Association of Canada Championships in Calgary this year from June 29 – July 4, 2013. We need volunteers for a number of activities. Please contact Maureen Atkinson at 403-254-5852 to get on the volunteer list.

We hope you all have a great year and can land a spot on our Alberta Contingent for this year’s Nationals.
